Sudanese security officers detained two ladies, Ibthal Adil and Ala Shams Eldin, from their houses on February 10, 2022, during a raid in Omdurman. Solafa Saad was detained on bogus charges on February 9th, accusing her and a group of activists of being involved in the strange murder of a police officer.
In recent weeks, Sudanese security agents have launched a new arrest operation. More than 160 activists are presently imprisoned, and their locations are unknown.
Sudanese women human rights defenders (WHRDs) have faced increased violence after the military takeover on October 25th, 2021. At least 13 women were raped during continuous protests on December 19, 2021, while scores more female demonstrators alleged sexual assault during arrest efforts. Torture, mistreatment, and sexual abuse are all possibilities for women in captivity. According to the recently freed female captives, the circumstances within imprisonment are heinously brutal.
We demand the immediate release of WHRDs and women detainees, as well as the dismissal of all false allegations against them. We also demand an urgent independent and impartial inquiry into sexual assault offenses committed during protests and arrests. We demand that those responsible for crimes against Sudanese women be held accountable!
