Die anhaltende Krise zwischen der Ukraine und Russland gibt Anlass zur Sorge, insbesondere nach den jüngsten Drohungen des russischen Präsidenten Wladimir Putin während des Internationalen Wirtschaftsforums in St Altbundeskanzler Gerhard Schröder.
Während des Forums wurde der russische Präsident nach den Transitpipelines der Ukraine in die EU gefragt, er warf ein und sagte: „Meinen Sie, wir sollten alle ernähren? Haben wir eine solche Pflicht, alle zu ernähren, oder was?”. Russland würde bestehende Verträge für Transitlieferungen aus der Ukraine im Wert von etwa 2 Mrd zielen darauf ab, die Probleme des Donbass mit Gewalt zu lösen, aber um die Wirtschaft zu verbessern, arbeiten Sie mit den Menschen zusammen – verstehen Sie?“, sagte Putin.
Die Drohung politisch motivierter Gasabschaltungen, die nun auch Polen und die baltischen Staaten treffen könnte, war der Hauptgrund, warum sie und die USA gegen Nord Stream 2 waren, aber Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel hat es zugunsten billigeren Gases unterstützt für Deutsche.
Schröder, der ehemalige Bundeskanzler, arbeitet jetzt für Gazprom, und der österreichische Bundeskanzler Sebastian Kurz, der per Videolink auf der Veranstaltung in St Pipelineroute und fügt hinzu: „Wir sind sehr optimistisch.“
DIDE fordert alle europäischen Länder auf, sich dieser Bedenken zu stellen und die Drohungen des russischen Präsidenten zu verurteilen, da sie nicht nur eine Bedrohung für die Ukraine und das ukrainische Volk darstellen, sondern auch eine große Bedrohung für Polen, die baltischen Staaten und den Rest der EU Ländern und eine Bedrohung der europäischen Werte.

The ongoing crisis between Ukraine and Russia is a cause for concern, especially after the recent threats carried out by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, during the St Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday June the 4th, which was attended by Austrian chancellor Sebastian Kurz and former German chancellor Gerhard Schröder.
During the Forum, the Russian President was asked about Ukraine’s transit pipelines to the EU, he interjected, saying: “Do you think we should feed everyone? Do we have such a duty to feed everyone, or what?”. Adding that Russia would honour existing contracts for Ukraine transit supplies, worth some €2bn a year to Kiev, adding: “Spend money not in order to maintain the army and aim it at solving the problems of Donbas by force, but in order to improve the economy, work with people – do you understand?” Putin said.
The threat of politically motivated gas-cut offs, which could now also hit Poland and the Baltic states, was the main reason why they and the US had opposed Nord Stream 2, but German chancellor Angela Merkel has backed it for the sake of cheaper gas for German people.
Schröder, The former German Chancellor, now works for Gazprom, and the Austrian chancellor Sebastian Kurz, who spoke at the St Petersburg event by video-link, also praised Nord Stream 2 saying that the Nord Stream 2 now provides us with safe, modern gas pipeline route, adding: “we’re very optimistic about it.”
DIDE calls for all European countries to address these concerns and condemn the threats carried out by the Russian president as they are not only a threat to Ukraine and Ukrainian people, but also a major threat to Poland, the Baltic states and the rest of the European countries and a threat to the European values.
